Why Attend

As a brand owner the pressure is on to achieve your sustainability mandate by the date you have committed to. However, it’s not an easy task to address the sheer volume of single-use and other fossil fuel plastic in your products and packaging. To increase your renewable plastic content you first need to decide how to address the problem – by introducing bio based polymers, biodegradable polymers or recyclate. Then, you need direct access to those at the forefront of scientific innovation in bioplastics and plastic circularity to find out what solutions are available, how they’ve worked in other applications and how they could work for yours.

Renewable Plastics Connect 2021 is a global event bringing together leading brands across all industry verticals with international suppliers offering cutting-edge renewable plastic solutions. You’ll be able to future proof your plastics strategy after hearing industry-wide updates on policy direction, market and investment trends, and will gain practical inspiration from cross-sector case studies of early bioplastic usage by both leading and emerging brands.

Alexis Figeac

Partner
Sustainability Investors LLP

Alexis has been a pioneer throughout his career. Looking into Artificial Intelligence and human-computer interaction in the 80’s, he seized the opportunity of German reunification to be at the forefront of economic transformation in East Germany at the Treuhandanstalt. He was involved with privatisation further afield in Eastern Europe before leading teams in the area of business restructuring at PriceWaterhouse.

Wanting to back good advice with money he joined Deutsche Telekom’s corporate venture capital entity, T-Venture, investing in and serving on the boards of numerous young ICT businesses.

Recognising the opportunity and necessity of a greener economy (he had invested in wind farms since 1995), he sought to establish one of the 1st cleantech Venture Capital funds in Germany in 2003. Alexis has been an early-stage investor and board member in a host of innovative green technology companies, also during his time as Partner at the Entrepreneurs Fund in London.

Through his 5-year tenure as Head of Sustainable Business and Entrepreneurship at the UNEP Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production in Wuppertal, Alexis took his thinking on sustainability to a new level and implemented its practice at DAX-30 clients as well as advising developing countries. Moreover, he has been instrumental in furthering knowledge on the business models of Circular Economy, as the instigator and coordinator of the R²π consortium: highlighting successful cases, accompanying businesses on a Circular Economy ‘innovation journey’ and drafting policy recommendations for the EU, from which it received € 3 Mio. in funding. Alexis is recognised as an expert on CE and has published articles on the topic. As Head of Circular Economy at KPMG Germany, he advised a major Tier-1 automotive supplier on transforming its lead product according to Circular Economy principles.

His Venture Capital experience and sustainability expertise have led him presently to establishing Sustainability Investors’ 1st fund: it brings technology solutions to the challenges facing our resource-constrained world in the 21st century. By providing much needed equity capital and value-creation to young businesses, Sustainability Investors will help disseminate real environmental solutions, protecting our planet while promoting prosperity.
