1979 - 82 Thesis in synthetic organic chemistry at the University of Graz. Ph.D. in April 1982.

1982 -  1983: Post-doctoral fellowship at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Synthesis of porphyrins.

1983 - 1989: University assistant at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Graz University of Technology.

1990: Habilitation in Organic Chemistry at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Graz University of Technology. Title: Biocatalytic Transformations.

October 1997, appointment to Associate Professor (C3) at Graz University of Technology.

September 1998, Full Professor at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, University of Graz (C4).

Visiting scientist / guest professor at:

University of Tokyo (1987/1988), Exeter University (1990), University of Trondheim (1994), Stockholm University (2001), University of Minneapolis (2005), ESPCI Paris (2010).

October 2017: Formal retirement, re-employed as senior scientist at the University of Graz.
