Leah Daly is Senior Director, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) for Santander US. In this role she leads the development and implementation Santander’s US ESG strategy, which includes reporting and disclosures, ESG governance, enterprise sustainability initiatives and development of green finance opportunities in partnership with businesses. Leah’s experience includes ESG, enterprise risk management, corporate governance and public policy.  

Leah was previously a principal at Tapestry Networks where she worked closely with board and committee chairs on a variety of complex topics facing the Top 30 global banking and insurance institutions.

She currently serves as National Co-Leader for Santander’s Embrace (LGBTQ+) Employee Resource Group and head of the governance committee at Wondermore, a Boston-based literacy non-profit.

Leah earned her Masters in Public Policy from the LBJ School at the University of Texas as Austin and holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College.

Dr. Lourenco Miranda is the Regional Head of Environmental & Social Risks, and Model Risk at the Societe Generale Corporate and Investment Bank. He joined the Bank in New York in February 2016 as Managing Director Head of Capital Planning, Assessment and Review (CCAR). Prior to SocGen, within his 24 years of financial industry experience, Dr. Miranda has held multiple leadership positions in Risk Management and Finance at internationally active Financial Institutions in multiple regions and in more than 50 countries and regulatory jurisdictions.

Dr. Lourenco Miranda is the Regional Head of Environmental & Social Risks, and Model Risk at the Societe Generale Corporate and Investment Bank. He joined the Bank in New York in February 2016 as Managing Director Head of Capital Planning, Assessment and Review (CCAR). Prior to SocGen, within his 24 years of financial industry experience, Dr. Miranda has held multiple leadership positions in Risk Management and Finance at internationally active Financial Institutions in multiple regions and in more than 50 countries and regulatory jurisdictions. In the academic world, for the past 30 years, Dr. Miranda has held faculty positions in multiple academic centers worldwide in the fields of Risk Management and Quantitative Finance; has been in the board of international academic and professional institutions and a regular speaker at major international conferences. Currently, Dr. Miranda has been an Adjunct Professor and has lectured risk management, stress testing, machine learning and data science at Fordham Gabelli School of Business in NYC. Besides that, Dr. Miranda is a published author of academic and professional articles, and book chapters. Lourenco holds a PhD in Statistical Physics applied to Quantitative Financial Risk Modeling.

As Managing Director and Associate General Counsel, she led the legal team supporting the Global Trade unit within JPMorgan's Corporate & Investment Bank. She was co-chair of the International Chamber of Commerce Banking Commission’s Working Group on Sustainable Trade Finance.

Harriette Resnick is an Assistant Deputy Superintendent in the Climate Division of the New York State Department of Financial Services. Before joining the Department of Financial Services, Harriette had served as internal counsel to JPMorgan Chase & Co. As Managing Director and Associate General Counsel, she led the legal team supporting the Global Trade unit within JPMorgan's Corporate & Investment Bank. She was co-chair of the International Chamber of Commerce Banking Commission’s Working Group on Sustainable Trade Finance. Harriette has a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and a Masters in Environmental Law from Pace University’s Elisabeth Haub School of Law, where she specialized in Global Environmental Studies. Her article, Seeing the Forest for the Trees: Public and Private Law Tools for Halting Deforestation, was published in the January 2020 issue of the Pace Environmental Law Review.

Charlotte Newbury is the Americas Head of Enterprise Risk at Deutsche Bank. In this role she is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive view of DB’s risk profile including emerging risks and trends. Varun Agarwal is an Executive Director at USAA where he oversees risk audit teams.

He brings over twenty-five years' experience having worked for large global financial institutions and insurers in Regulatory Risk & Compliance space. He has worked for Capgemini, HSBC, Deloitte, and JP Morgan in US, Canada and Europe.

His background includes responsibilities in Credit, Market, Liquidity, Operational, Strategic Risk and AML, along with Risk Governance, Policy, Data Management and Reporting.  He also created Enterprise Risk Management frameworks, set Risk Appetite, and executed end-to-end risk processes. He has also worked on a variety of analytical models for Capital Management, Pricing, Valuation and Derivatives.

He is a published author on topics in finance and risk across US and Europe and has presented at professional conferences at both national and regional levels. Varun earned both his Ph.D. and Master's degree in Financial Economics from the University of Alabama and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from BITS, Pilani, India. He also holds a CFA charter.​

Suresh Sankaran is the Head of Model Risk, Validation, & Governance at Metro Bank, where he oversees all aspects of model risk and other risk-related governance. He advises on factors that senior management and Board should collectively consider when overseeing the bank’s model governance and risk management framework and policies. He is responsible for the independent validation of all bank models and is also accountable for regulatory liaison on all matters relating to model risk.  

Suresh has over 30 years’ experience in the realm of strategic consulting, compliance, audit, and risk management. He has held leadership roles managing several facets of risk management, most notably credit, liquidity, and balance sheet management.

Suresh has advised banks, governments, and other financial services organisations on all facets of risk management, and has acted as a second pair of eyes to assure the soundness and financial sustainability of client portfolios.

 Suresh is a ranking Chartered Accountant, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance & Accountancy. He has diverse interests including Indian Classical Music, Skydiving, P G Wodehouse, and Pink Floyd.

She has worked with the Bank since 2006 on both sides of the border – Canada and the US, in Finance & Risk Management. In addition to her work past few years in model risk governance, her areas of expertise include financial modeling, efficiency planning, resolution and recovery planning primarily focused on strategy and liquidity management, model validations, management and regulatory reporting and investor relations. Prior to joining TD, Rhea has worked at the Bank of India in Planning and Forecasting and ICICI Bank where she was responsible for Capital Planning and Regulatory filings including her work on filings with the SEC in the US and as a representative from the Bank to the working committee for Basel supervision and reporting at the Reserve Bank of India. Rhea has a Masters degree in Business, Bachelors degree in Financial Accounting & Auditing, completed the Canadian Securities Course, is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers, passed the CFA level II exams and has several technology certifications to her credit.

In her role as Head of Analytics, Deniz is focused on providing quantitative solutions consisting of Predictive Analytics and Business Intelligence (data analytics, reporting) for business lines across the bank. In parallel, she is also responsible for risk oversight of Treasury’s activities, which includes managing the investment portfolio, asset-liability risk, liquidity risk, funding and liability pricing, and capital structure, in her role as CRO for Treasury.

Deniz is the Head of Analytics and Chief Risk Officer, supporting Global Treasury, at State Street Corporation (SSC). In her role as Head of Analytics, Deniz is focused on providing quantitative solutions consisting of Predictive Analytics and Business Intelligence (data analytics, reporting) for business lines across the bank. In parallel, she is also responsible for risk oversight of Treasury’s activities, which includes managing the investment portfolio, asset-liability risk, liquidity risk, funding and liability pricing, and capital structure, in her role as CRO for Treasury.


Prior to her current role, Deniz was the Head of Model Risk Management at State Street for three years and headed up Model Risk Management within GE Capital for 3+ years before joining State Street in 2015. Deniz’s 15 year tenure at GE also included leading the marketing analytics teams as well as the research teams within GE Global Research Center. During her time at GE, she published 15+ patents and 20+ research papers on advanced statistical techniques used in risk and finance.


Deniz’s areas of functional expertise include compliance and control functions, credit, treasury, market and model risk management in addition to risk analytics, marketing analytics and business strategy management. She also served as an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Business, Fordham University for three years.


Deniz holds a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics from University of California, Santa Barbara and a B.S. in Physics from Bogazici University (Turkey).

James Costa is Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer of Banner  Bank. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the company’s risk and compliance functions as well as the Bank’s interactions with industry regulators. He is also a member of the Bank’s Executive Management Committee.

Prior to joining Banner, Costa served as Chief Risk and Chief Credit Officer for TCF Financial a regional bank where he managed all credit and risk functions as well as operations. At TCF Jim managed the enterprise integration of the merger equals between Chemical Bank and TCF.  Prior to TCF, Jim held executive leadership positions in risk, credit and lines of business as EVP at PNC Financial and Head of Enterprise Credit Strategy at Wachovia Corporation, now Wells Fargo.  Jim has been active in financial services for almost 30 years with focus areas including enterprise strategy credit risk, and regulatory relations. 

Jim earned his bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University and conducted his doctoral studies from the University of Minnesota.  Jim is a veteran of the US Air Force. In Minnesota, Jim is active in community organizations to include Habitat for Humanity, Humane Society and The University of Minnesota Center for Children’s Cancer Research.  Jim is also an advisory board member for the Midsize Bank Coalition of America.

As Head of Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) team, I lead Wells Fargo’s efforts to understand customers’ E&S impact and performance, and manage E&S risks across the enterprise. ESRM team also engages with key external stakeholders to understand their perspectives about the industries Wells Fargo supports, and identify solutions to pressing and emerging E&S issues.
The ESRM function provides lines-of-business the clarity and tools they need to make informed decisions when growing relationships in sensitive industries. The ESRM approach also helps the corporation more effectively manage business and credit, strategic and reputational risks to Wells Fargo, while at the same time allow it to deeper understand customers’ operations and long-term viability. We help the company protect people, communities and the environment.
Prior to joining Wells Fargo, I spent 14 years at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) conducting global E&S risk management, due diligence, supervision, and audit in the infrastructure, apparel, manufacturing, oil and gas, mining, and health and education sectors. At IFC, I worked in a number of regions, including Europe, Central Asia, Northern Africa, Middle East, Central and Southern Americas. I hold an MS in Environmental Science and Sustainability Management from Columbia University in New York; Masters of Law from Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany; and the equivalent of a JD from Belarusian State University in the Republic of Belarus. I am fluent in English, Russian, German, and Spanish. I am a certified yoga teacher and mindfulness practitioner. For fun I travel the world and practice circus arts. I have a daughter who is a joy and light of my life.

Hans Helbekkmo is a Partner at McKinsey & Company’s Risk Practice, where he leads the North American Enterprise Risk Management Service line.  He joined McKinsey from Union Bank in 2012, where he served as Head of Credit Portfolio Risk for five years and was responsible for CapPR/CCAR stress testing. Hans has extensive experience advising financial institutions on risk management issues, including credit, market, insurance, and operational risk.  He has deep experience as a consultant, solution provider and in-house risk manager. 

Recent experience includes:

•Assisted 10 CCAR and 2 DFAST banks across topics including modeling (credit, operational risk, PPNR), capital plan/policy, documentation, model uncertainty and governance
•Developed enhanced risk appetite frameworks at 5 North American banks
•Helped streamline CCAR stress testing processes at top-5 US bank by identifying efficiency improvements
•Assessed CCAR preparedness for former CapPR bank – developed recommendations across governance, models, process and documentation
•Oversaw SCAP and CCAR stress testing at foreign owned US bank and managed rollout of bank’s stress testing program, covering credit losses, earnings, investment portfolio losses and operational risk
•Developed a stress testing governance framework, including ties to risk appetite framework and risk mitigation
•Implemented a new Enterprise Risk Management policy and limit setting framework for a major US discount brokerage firm

•Conducted complete overhaul of key aspects of retail risk management, including value based segmentation and pricing methodology, improved scoring models, risk appetite and credit processes

•Custom built commercial, CRE and consumer credit scoring models for several US and European banks
•Prototyped regression based framework for line of business income statement and balance sheet projections, including distribution based macroeconomic scenarios

His background includes responsibilities in Credit, Market, Liquidity, Operational, Strategic Risk and AML, along with Risk Governance, Policy, Data Management and Reporting.  He also created Enterprise Risk Management frameworks, set Risk Appetite, and executed end-to-end risk processes. He has also worked on a variety of analytical models for Capital Management, Pricing, Valuation and Derivatives.

Varun earned both his Ph.D. and Master's degree in Financial Economics from the University of Alabama and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from BITS, Pilani, India.
